• Mornington Osteopathy: For everybody!

Somewhat Ten-der

Better heads than mine insisted the “Self portrait of an Osteopath shortly after having run 10ks” was not suitable material for the website. Here instead is the view from inside the arena. Congratulations to all patients who went the distance, and more, with the half and full marathons.

da bomb!

123After an 18-year premiership drought, the Frankston Bombers have won the 2009 MPNFL Nepean Grand Final in a historic come-from-behind victory over Sorrento on Saturday. The win ends recent years of finals heartache for the Bombers. Late in the first quarter, Sorrento rushed to a 27-point lead but the momentum soon shifted and the Bombers kicked 12 of the next 14 goals to claim the cup by 37-points.

This year, Frankston recruited one of our Osteopaths – Rachael (far right), who has previously worked with Seaford Football Club (2007 & 2008 Premiers). Since pre-season back in February and every Saturday afternoon since, Rachael has worked closely with the Bombers to enable players to perform at their best, providing injury advice, treatment and rehabilitation programs – all proving to be vital to the Bombers success!

Splits Form Over How to Address Bone Loss

This is a New York Times article published on 7th September 2009

By KATE MURPHY

pcmh-bone-densityAs people age, their bones lose density and they grow ever more vulnerable to osteoporosis, with its attendant risk of a disabling fracture. But how do you know just how vulnerable you are?

The question has been complicated by a relatively new diagnosis: osteopenia, or bone density that is below what is considered normal but not low enough to be considered osteoporosis.

Millions of people worldwide, most of them women, have been told they have osteopenia and should take drugs to inhibit bone loss. But the drugs carry risks, so many public-health experts say the diagnosis often does more harm than good. Read More »

Whale of a time

When patients finally discover that I’m attempting to swim at least weekly in the bay with nothing between me and hypothermia but a small amount of nylon (Truth be told. When patients become sick of me talking about this) I don’t have an adequate answer as to why on earth I would even consider such behaviour. Maybe these pictures from last week will help. They include two whales just a kilometer off shore, perfect swimming conditions coupled with a classic sunset. It’s not an adequate answer but I hope at least it will stop patients pointing to their temple and circling their finger.

Geelong veterans throw in the towel

Mornington Osteopathy office manager Diana, would like to point out that you only have to be 40 to compete in the Geelong Veterans Badminton Tournament but if you do you’ll have to get past her team before you can take home such a splendid trophy!

  • As from 2010 we are delighted to be able to announce that Mornington Osteopathy will be consulting on Mondays and Thursdays at The Sports Injury Clinic in Frankston at 361 Nepean Highway.

TSIC has a well deserved reputation as the place to go for manual therapy treatment in Frankston and will offer our patients access to much better facilities. We will have access to specialist medical practitioners, gym classes and with over 1,000 patients a week passing through the doors we also feel it’s a great way to provide osteopathic treatment to a ever wider range of people.

  • WorkCover, TAC and Veterans Affairs patients are eligible for osteopathic treatment. Patients may also be covered for osteopathic treatment under an Extended Care Plan (ECP) which means up to five treatments could be subsidised by Medicare. Speak to your doctor to see if you're eligible.
