Headaches and neck pain

headache_Full
Headache is probably the most easily brought on symptom that we can experience- even a bit of thundery weather is enough to make a non-headache person reach for the paracetamol.
A large number of the head pains we experience are either completely caused, or at least have a major contribution from, the structures in the neck. Any tension in the neck will not only cause local pain but can frequently give us referred pain at the back, top, or side of the head. Pain behind the eyes and muzzy feelings in the head, dizzyness and nausea can also be traced back to neck problems.

Some neck and head pains are the result of more serious problems but these are, fortunately, rare in otherwise well people and other recognisable symptoms may suggest that more investigations will be prudent.

For Osteopaths the neck is accessible and easily examined. With skilled use of the hands mechanical problems in the neck are readily identified. Often gentle pressure on the affected part of the neck can produce the headache pattern you experience.
The causes of neck tension and stiffness are many and various from previous trauma to the head or neck or continual strain at work or activity.
The tissues we inherit deteriorate at different stages of our lives and normal “wear and tear” can tighten our tissues or make them more vulnerable.
Here the osteopathic testing and exam methods allow us to get a feel of just how much is possible with your neck and what can be safely achieved.

Sometimes our lifestyles get in the way of recovery and then attention to posture and how we do things is as important as the hands on part of treatment. Checking your posture at the desk, in the car or any leisure activity is our job and we can advise how to improve your postural efficiency and cut down strain and muscle tension.

Osteopathic treatment is safe and effective. We are aware how vulnerable the neck can feel and are sensitive to your apprehension. No one likes having too much done to their neck but we aware of what to do and how to do it . Give us your headaches, let us give you less pain and more flexibility – quickly.
